Talking Point #09 - 54% of Children Suffer from Chronic Illness
Over 14.2 Million have conditions resulting in a special health care need
October is Vaccine Injury Awareness Month, and with Alexis Lorenze’s story of vaccine injury going viral on social media, it’s time to update the VaxSafety.org website, this Substack, and my new Instagram! I’ll be posting 60 talking points that break this conversation into easily digestible parts, making it accessible for everyone, even kids. So, let’s put on our black ribbons for awareness and spread the word. Feel free to share widely, and check back anytime for updates, as I’ll be adding more information as needed.
Did You Know? Today, 54% of our children suffer from chronic illnesses like Asthma, Obesity, Developmental Delays, Food Allergies, Nerve Damage, ADHD, Autism, Eczema, G.I. Distress, Epilepsy, and Cancer... just to name a few.
An estimated 43% of US children (32 million) currently have at least 1 of 20 chronic health conditions assessed, increasing to 54.1% when overweight, obesity, or being at risk for developmental delays are included.
Over 14.16 million (19.2%) of the estimated 73.76 million children in the United States have one or more ongoing health conditions that result in a greater need for or use of health services of a type or amount than is generally required by children.
Over 14.2 million have conditions resulting in a special health care need. The jump has not been connected to income status. The increase was observed in both publicly insured and privately insured children between 2003 and 2007.
